Because Domestic Abuse is Unacceptable...

My friend Dana Kirkham and I reciently entered a contest called "Canada's Next Top Young Philanthropist" our entry was a movie based on our cause and different ways we hope to help create a solution. Starting this saturday you guys can vote on which cause or entry you would like to support. The top ten will be able to attend a conference with Canadian philanthropists, one of which will recieve ten thousand dollars to go towards the solution for their cause.

The cause we chose was domestic abuse, because it's universal, it can and DOES happen everywhere, and it tends to go unnoticed until it's too late.

Some straight facts regarding domestic abuse:
-In Canada over 51% of women over the age of 16 have experienced at least one incident of physical of sexual assault
-Every week in Canada at least one woman is killed by her partner
-Less than 10% of incidences are reported by abused women
-Up to 360 000 children are exposed to domestic violence annually in Canada
-58, 486 women and 36, 840 children sought refuge in one of 473 shelters across Canada between April 1st 2003 and March 31st 2004
